Nepali Congress (NC) has officially welcomed the Election Commission’s decision to recognize its recent Special General Convention, describing the move as a triumph for the party statute and democratic values.
In a Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held in New Baneshwar on Saturday, the party leadership emphasized that the Commission's validation is not a matter of internal "winners or losers," but rather a victory for rule of law and democratic practice.
Recognition of legal validity
Issuing a statement on Saturday, Party Spokesperson Devraj Chalise confirmed that the Election Commission has updated its records to reflect the decisions made during the party's second Special General Convention.
"The Election Commission has granted recognition to the decisions of Nepali Congress’s second Special General Convention, updating them in accordance with the constitution, the law, and the party’s own statute," the statement reads. "This is a victory of the rule of law and democracy itself. The CWC expresses its heartfelt gratitude to every member, well-wisher, and supporter who stood by us during this historic transition."
Call for unity and upcoming elections
The CWC highlighted the urgent need for internal harmony and collaboration. The party has called upon all members, committees, sister organizations, and well-wishers—both within Nepal and abroad—to mobilize with "new energy and complete unity" for the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5.
Furthermore, the leadership issued a formal appeal to former leaders and cadres who had become inactive or left the party, inviting them to rejoin the fold and contribute to the party's mission.
Honoring Deuba’s legacy
The meeting also took a moment to express high appreciation for outgoing President Sher Bahadur Deuba. The party thanked Deuba and other senior leaders for their long-standing contributions to the leadership. NC expressed confidence that Deuba would continue to provide "guardianship and parental guidance" to the party in the days ahead.
Nepali Congress reiterated its commitment to the citizens of Nepal by vowing to move away from "unnatural alliances." The party clarified that it will no longer enter into power-centric agreements that compromise its core values.
Key resolutions from the meeting include a commitment to upholding constitutional values, spearheading the drive for a prosperous Nepal, and fulfilling the aspirations of both the youth and the general public.
The CWC meeting concluded by defining this period as a "new chapter of transformation, unity, and victory," urging all citizens to join the grand campaign for a developed and prosperous nation.
