The Nepali community in Poland is mourning the loss of Nepali national 33-year-old Suman Gurung who passed away on Friday (January 16).
This tragedy comes just one week after the passing of 42-year-old Gopal Bahadur Limbu Sherma from Jhapa. Suman Gurung, a resident of Madi-11, Upallo Saple in Kaski district, reportedly suffered a cardiac attack.
According to his roommate, Sagar Thakuri, Gurung had experienced respiratory issues on three previous occasions. "He sometimes had difficulty breathing, but on the morning of January 16 around 7:00 am, it seemed like a heart attack," Thakuri told Nepalkhabar.
Despite immediate first aid from the landlord and a swift ambulance transfer to the hospital, Gurung was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Gurung had migrated to Romania for employment on September 1, 2024, before moving to Poland on May 11, 2025. He was employed by the TMS Group, a mushroom production company located in Ostromeczyn, Platerów, approximately 150 kilometers from Warsaw.
He is survived by his wife, Sunita Gurung, and their seven-year-old son.
Speaking from Nepal, his wife expressed her devastation, "A tragedy I never imagined has occurred. I am not in a state to speak. I appeal to the Nepali community and organizations in Poland to provide whatever assistance they can.
The Nepali Embassy in Germany, which also oversees affairs in Poland, has initiated the process to repatriate Gurung’s mortal remains. Sagar Prasad Phuyal, Acting Ambassador to Germany, confirmed that legal procedures are underway. "We have established contact and coordination with the employer. We have already instructed the Honorary Consulate in Warsaw to complete the necessary legal formalities to send the body back to Nepal as soon as possible," Phuyal said.
