State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Horii Iwao, paid a courtesy call on President
President Ramchandra Paudel has hailed the 70th anniversary of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations as a historic milestone, underscoring the enduring nature of their partnership.
The President made these remarks during a high-level meeting with Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Horii Iwao, in Tokyo on Monday. President Paudel is currently leading a Nepali delegation on a four-day official visit to commemorate seven decades of formal ties between the two countries.
During the discussions, President Paudel highlighted Japan’s role as an "important and reliable development partner." He expressed gratitude for Japan's consistent support in Nepal’s socio-economic evolution.
According to the President’s Press Advisor, Kiran Pokharel, the discussions touched upon several key areas of cooperation including bilateral grants, loans, and multilateral aid. The meeting also focused on significant contributions to human resource development, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and environmental conservation. President Paudel also expressed a desire for Nepal to further benefit from Japanese expertise, skills, and advanced technology.
"Japan’s experience and knowledge have been instrumental in our progress. We look forward to deeper engagement in culture preservation and technical skill-sharing," President Paudel stated.
In response, State Minister Horii Iwao commended President Paudel’s personal dedication to upholding the Constitution and democracy in Nepal. He noted that the President’s efforts have garnered international appreciation, particularly following events held in early September.
The Minister reaffirmed Japan’s support for peace and stability in the Himalayan nation, emphasizing a continued partnership in economic growth, technical exchange, and the strengthening of democratic institutions.
The meeting underscores the enduring friendship between the two nations as they look toward a new era of diplomatic and economic partnership.
