Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as ‘Prachanda,’ coordinator of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and former Prime Minister, has reiterated that his party will contest the upcoming House of Representatives elections without forming any electoral alliances.
Addressing a virtual meeting of the NCP’s Central Election Mobilization Committee on Thursday morning, Dahal made it clear that the party intends to run independently in the elections scheduled for March 5.
Dahal, in his address, emphasized that the NCP will not seek "electoral alliances" with any major political parties.
According to NCP leader Lilamani Pokharel, Dahal expressed confidence that the party is on track to become the largest political force in the country on its own merits.
Without naming specific rivals, the former Prime Minister stated that the NCP’s policy is to avoid alliances with those who have been "rejected and despised by the people."
Meanwhile, Dahal noted that current campaign trends show the NCP leading ahead of other parties, citing strong public response to their candidates.
While the party maintains a national policy of independence, Dahal confirmed a localized strategic partnership in Baglung. NCP has reached a specific agreement with Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) in Baglung-1. NCP will support Krishna Adhikari of RJM. Similarly, in Baglung 2, RJM will support NCP’s candidate, Gyannath Gaire.
The one-hour Zoom meeting also featured an address by NCP co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal. Central committee members from across the country participated in the session to finalize the party's strategy as the election date approaches.
