Legendary actor Sunil Thapa passes away

Veteran actor Sunil Thapa, widely celebrated by his iconic screen name "Raate Kaila," passed away on Saturday morning. He was 68.

He was undergoing treatment at Norvic International Hospital in Thapathali.

Thapa was rushed to the hospital after experiencing sudden health complications. Despite the efforts of the medical team, he breathed his last earlier today.

Sunil Thapa was a powerhouse in both the Nepali and Indian film industries, spanning a career that lasted for decades. He was best known for his formidable portrayals of antagonists, carving out a unique niche as the ultimate "villain" in Nepali cinema.

While his family resides in Mumbai, India, Thapa had been living in his apartment in Shankhamul, Kathmandu, to remain close to the local film fraternity.

The news of his demise has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry. Colleagues and fans have taken to social media to express their grief.

Popular comedian and actor Kedar Ghimire (Magne Budha) shared a heartfelt tribute:

"I am deeply shocked by the news of the unexpected passing of veteran actor Sunil Thapa Dai. The Nepali film industry has lost a great personality and a strong pillar today. His contributions to the field of art will remain immortal. Heartfelt condolences, Dai; may you rest in peace in heaven."
