A local gold trader has been robbed of Rs 6 million after being lured with the "cheap gold price offer". A preliminary investigation of the police found involvement of the police, too, behind the robbery.
On January 28, a group of individuals called Lamgade to Kirtipur promising him that they would sell him gold with bills at a discounted price.
To his surprise, when he went to Kirtipur to buy the gold, they robbed him of his money he had carried to purchase the gold and absconded.
Those involved in the robbery had told him that they were police officials from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police.
However, it was eventually revealed that they were not from the CIB.
Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley Investigation Office has arrested 38-year-old Karna Bahadur Sunar, a police head constable from Tribhuvan International Airport in connection with the robbery. Sunar, who originally hails from Kawasoti Municipality-13, Nawalparasi, is a police official.
Acting on a tip-off, the police had arrested Sunar with Rs 109,000 in cash from Katunje, Bhaktapur on February 1.
Similarly, Bikram Tamang, 32, of Naukunda Rural Municipality-3, Rasuwa and Jivan Tamang, 32, of Kakani Rural Municipality-7, Nuwakot, were also arrested from Kathmandu along with two motorcycles, mobile phones and Rs 433,000 in cash, informed SP Rameshwar Karki.
Constable Sunar had been arrested based on the statement of Bikram and Jivan Tamang. The arrested have been sent to the Police Circle, Kalimati for necessary investigation, said SSP Karki.
