In a vibrant display of technical prowess, 12 community schools converged at Classic Venue, Sanepa, on February 12, 2026, for the 2nd Yala Mayor’s Cup Inter-School Robotics Competition. The event, a collaborative initiative between Lalitpur Metropolitan City and the KDDI Foundation Japan, with technical backing from OLE Nepal, showcased the growing digital literacy among local students.

The competition was inaugurated by Katsutoshi Hanahara, President of the KDDI Foundation Japan, who emphasized the importance of global partnerships in education. The tournament was divided into two distinct categories: a Live Coding Challenge, where teams programmed autonomous robots under strict time limits, and a Creative Exhibition, which allowed students to showcase original robotic innovations.

Bal Binod Secondary School dominated the coding category to take first place, followed by Mahalakshmi and Prabhat Secondary Schools. In the exhibition category, Hindu Vidyapeeth secured the top spot, while Shramik Bal Bigyan and Jalpa Secondary bagged second and third positions, respectively. Winners received cash prizes of up to Rs 10,000, along with medals and trophies.

"Working with robotics coding has not only improved our technical skills but also taught us the true value of teamwork," shared Sonali Singh, a student from Bal Binod Secondary School.

Echoing this sentiment, Devi Prasad Dulal, Principal of Prabhat Secondary, praised the municipality’s support, stating that such programs are essential for developing collective problem-solving skills in the modern era.

In their concluding remarks, officials from OLE Nepal and KDDI Foundation reaffirmed their commitment to integrating technology into the classroom. They noted that robotics and computer-based learning are no longer just extracurricular activities but vital tools that simplify teaching and empower students to navigate a tech-driven future.
