Nepal won a consolation win by defeating Scotland by 7 wickets in its final group stage match held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.
This victory marks Nepal’s first win in an ICC Men’s World Cup in 12 years. Their previous success came in 2014, when it secured two wins—defeating Hong Kong by 80 runs and Afghanistan by 9 runs. Although Nepal returned to the global stage for the 2024 World Cup, they were unable to register a win during that tournament.
Earlier, Nepal was defeated by England by 4 runs in its first group stage match. It suffered a 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Italy in the second match and a 9-wicket defeat to the West Indies in the third match.
Chasing the 171-run target set by Scotland, Nepal reached it in 19.2 overs, losing 3 wickets.
Dipendra Singh Airee topped the score with 50 runs, followed by Kushal Bhurtel with 43 runs. Aasif Sheikh scored 33 runs while Gulsan Jha and Rohit Paudel contributed 24 and 16 runs, respectively.

On the bowling side, Michael Leask grabbed 3 wickets for Scotland.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, Scotland notched up 170 runs losing 7 all wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Michael Jones topped the score with 71 runs including 8 fours and 3 sixes off 45 balls. Similarly, Brandon McMullen scored 25 runs followed by George Munsey with 27 runs. Richie Berrington and Mark Watt contributed 10 runs each. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.
In reply, Sompal Kami took the highest 3 wickets followed by Nandan Yadav with 2 wickets while Rohit Paudel and Kushal Bhurtel grabbed 1 wicket each for Nepal.
