Silence period starting from midnight today

The silence period for the House of Representatives elections to be held on March 5 is starting tonight. The Election Commission has stated that the silence period will start from midnight today.

Once the silence period begins, no one will be allowed to campaign for or against anyone or solicit votes. As the silence period will start tonight, political parties and candidates are making their last effort to woo voters today.

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, CPN-UML Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and other leaders of various parties have issued video messages on Sunday asking for votes in favor of their candidates and parties.

According to the Election Commission, the silence period began at 12 midnight today and will be in effect until the voting is completed. The election law provides for the silence period to begin 72 hours before the start of voting.

What are dos and don'ts during the silence period?
(1) No election campaigning or soliciting votes.

(2) Before the beginning of the silence period, the election symbols and propaganda and dissemination materials placed within 300 meters of the polling station should be removed.

(3) No one should solicit votes or spread election propaganda through electronic media such as SMS, Facebook, Viber.

(4) No one should use, sell, or display or cause to be displayed or cause to be displayed symbolic materials such as clothing, hats, stickers, logos, bags, tattoos, etc., bearing the election symbols of a candidate or political party.

(5) No one should publish or broadcast any news or information that promotes the candidacy of a candidate or political party.
