The resignation of Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has been rejected.
The Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting has unanimously decided to reject the resignation submitted by Thapa to Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma in accordance with Article 26 (1) of the statute, taking moral responsibility for the results of the House of Representatives election held on March 5.
The meeting held at the party central office, Sanepa, on Friday and Sunday decided not to accept the resignation submitted by President Thapa. The meeting concluded that the main reasons for the election defeat were deep-seated structural issues and circumstances beyond control.
Similarly, the meeting felt that President Thapa's leadership is even more necessary in the current complex national situation.
The meeting concluded that accepting the resignation would lead to unnecessary instability, confusion and a decline in the morale of the cadres. Since resignation is not mandatory but a moral and voluntary matter, it is appropriate to reject it respectfully and
it is said to be based on the principle of collective responsibility and the need for stability of the party leadership.
The decision states that Thapa's resignation was rejected as the party needs to focus on the upcoming 15th General Convention, arguing that the implementation of the reform program (Congress 2.0) initiated after the special general convention needs to continue.
