The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has expressed its disagreement with the findings of the 2082 Inquiry Commission report regarding the Gen Z uprising on September 8–9.
Taking strong exception to the report, the Bar said that the report went beyond its jurisdiction and mentioned the issues of the judiciary in an objectionable manner. A meeting of the advisory committee has been called at 1:30 pm today to discuss it.
"The report has come in a way that will have a negative impact on the society toward the judiciary and the legal profession, we disagree with this," said Kedar Prasad Koirala, the general secretary of the Bar, "serious discussions will be held among legal practitioners on this."
The report addresses systemic issues within the legal field, including the regulation of lawyers' fees to improve access to justice and the elimination of institutional anomalies. It specifically emphasizes the need to prevent the justice system from becoming an exclusive 'paradise for lawyers' at the expense of the public.
The commission’s report states, "It is said that the general public does not have access to justice, and that Nepali citizens cannot get justice in an accessible manner. Due to lack of access and money, justice has become a very distant issue. The lawyers who have to argue on behalf of the parties are so expensive that they charge thousands for even writing a simple application."
