Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that his arrest is a retaliatory move by the newly formed government.
Oli, who is also the chairman of CPN (UML), was arrested by police on Saturday morning from his residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur. Police personnel had been deployed at his residence throughout the night to carry out the arrest. Following his apprehension, Oli was taken to the District Police Range, Kathmandu in Bhadrakali.
He was arrested on charges of "homicide due to negligence" during the 'Gen-Z' protests that occurred on September 8-9.
After police arrived with an arrest warrant, Oli consulted with his legal team. Before being taken into custody, he held discussions with former Attorney General Ramesh Badal and Senior Advocate Tikaram Bhattarai.
Prior to his arrest, Oli told his lawyers, "This arrest is vengeful and prejudiced. I will fight a legal battle against this."
Senior Advocate Bhattarai has also claimed that Oli's arrest is illegal.
