The newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal, will take the oath of office and secrecy on Sunday. A special swearing-in ceremony has been scheduled for Sunday at 2:30 pm at the Office of the President in Sheetal Niwas.
RSP MP Aryal was elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives through the election held on March 5. As a candidate of the ruling RSP, he got the opportunity to take the helm of the Parliament.
According to Article 91 of the Constitution of Nepal, there is a constitutional provision for the President to administer oath to the elected Speaker. Sources at the Office of the President said that the necessary preparations for the swearing-in of the newly elected Speaker have been made. Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Chairman of the National Assembly and other dignitaries will be present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Speaker Aryal faces a challenging tenure as he navigates a deeply divided parliament. His primary responsibilities include advancing a backlog of critical pending bills while mediating the intensifying polarization between the ruling party and the opposition.
At the same time, Aryal—who has served as the Vice President of RSP—is under significant pressure to prove his neutrality and maintain the independent integrity of the House.
