Newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Dol Prasad Aryal took the oath of office and secrecy on Sunday.
President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to Aryal as the tenth Speaker of the HoR during a special ceremony organized at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas.
Earlier, in the meeting of the House of Representatives held on Sunday, senior member Arjun Narsingh KC had announced that Aryal had been elected unopposed as Speaker. Aryal was unanimously elected with the support of 182 MPs of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in the 275-member House of Representatives and no candidatures from other parties.
Born on August 22, 1974 in Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality of Dhading, Aryal is the founding vice-president of the RSP. He played an important role in the establishment of the party in 2079 BS. He is an elected MP from Kathmandu Constituency-9. In his previous parliamentary term, he was the Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security.
His main challenge will be to move the House forward in a balanced manner by ending the increasing political polarization in the parliament and differences among the parties.
