Foreign Ministers of India, Bhutan and Bangladesh call on Minister Khanal

Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal who is currently in Port Louis, capital city of Mauritius, to attend the 9th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) 2026 held separate meetings with the Foreign Ministers of India, Bhutan and Bangladesh on Friday.

In a meeting with India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the multi-dimensional Nepal-India relations were cursorily reviewed and areas of mutual interests were discussed, Nepal's Foreign Ministry stated.

The foreign ministers expressed their commitment to further deepening bilateral cooperation.

Similarly, Minister Khanal also met with Bhutan's Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade DN Dhungyel. On the occasion, the two discussed the matters to further expanding the Nepal-Bhutan ties and enhancing cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.

Minister Khanal also held talks with Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman. During the meeting, they discussed various areas of expanding cooperation to further strengthen bilateral relations while expressing satisfaction with the cordial relations between the two countries.

The Conference taking place from April 10-12 is being organized by the India Foundation in association with the Government of Mauritius under the theme "Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance."

During the Conference, the Foreign Minister will deliver Nepal's national statement articulating Nepal's perspectives on Indian Ocean governance, the mountain-ocean ecological nexus, and the importance of maritime connectivity for economic development.
