Nepali Congress (NC) has officially launched its "Jara Abhiyan" to update and modernize its active membership database. Party President Gagan Thapa inaugurated the initiative on Tuesday in Kathmandu-30 by updating his own membership. The campaign, which aims to strengthen and systematize the party organization, is scheduled to run across the country through mid-May.
To ensure the campaign's success, the party has deployed central representatives to all 77 districts. These representatives, supported by technical teams, will oversee the distribution of new memberships at the ward and regional levels, while district committees manage the updating of existing records. The drive also includes citizen dialogues and interactions with local representatives to bridge the gap between the party and the public.

A key focus of this mission is the transition to a digital record system. General Secretary Pradip Paudel noted that out of 863,000 current members, nearly 100,000 lack recorded phone numbers and 50,000 are missing photos. The new system introduces banking-style OTP (One-Time Password) verification, requiring members to provide valid photos and mobile numbers to receive a digital ID.
This technological shift is designed to eliminate membership disputes and lay the groundwork for future "primary elections" to select election candidates.
President Thapa emphasized that a scientific membership system is vital for a robust organization, warning that those who do not secure a digital ID will be ineligible to participate in the upcoming 15th General Convention.
