The impact of the political changes in West Bengal, India, has been witnessed in the border area of Nepal.
The formation of a new government in the neighboring state of West Bengal, India, and its political agenda have led to the displacement of the Muslim community, especially the Rohingya, and their entry into Nepal.
The police have issued a 'high alert' in the border area in view of the risk of Rohingyas entering Nepal through the eastern Nepal-India border.
According to Morang Superintendent of Police Kabita Katuwal, arrangements have been made to mandatorily check the identity cards of every suspicious person crossing the border to prevent possible infiltration.
"Security personnel have been mobilized extensively to stop those who are trying to enter Nepal without their identities being revealed and in suspicious circumstances," he said. "Local levels have also been asked to remain sensitive and immediately inform about the activities of unknown persons."
Koshi Province Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Binod Ghimire informed that stricter measures have been taken at the checkpoints in all districts of Koshi Province. DIG Ghimire informed that special stricter measures have been taken in the border areas in view of the possibility of Rohingyas entering recently.
"There is no official information about the entry of Rohingyas so far," he said, "This step has been taken to minimize the potential risk."
