A major step forward in China-Nepal agricultural cooperation was marked on May 17, 2026, with the official launch of the "Vibrant Village" Livestock and Fishery Support Project in Jhapa District, Koshi Province. Supported by a team of dozens of experts from the Chongqing Municipal Government, the initiative aims to boost farmers' incomes and modernize traditional agricultural sectors through advanced technology.
The project is being coordinated by the Nepal Office of the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) alongside the local municipal governments of Birtamode and Arjundhara. By introducing mechanized farming systems, high-tech dairy buffalo and fish farming methods, and silage preparation, the initiative seeks to transition local farms into highly sustainable and modern operations. Already, more than 120 local farmers have received hands-on technical training from Chinese experts.
The launch ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including former Speaker of the House of Representatives Dev Raj Ghimire, local government leaders, and representatives from the Chinese Embassy. Speakers expressed deep gratitude to the visiting expert team, noting that the introduction of advanced Chinese machinery has already created a strong wave of optimism and excitement across Koshi Province.

Highlighting the long-term vision of the initiative, Ms. Zou Zhiqiang, Country Director of the CFRD Nepal Office, emphasized the project's role as a scalable model for sustainable growth.
"The gradual implementation of the 'Vibrant Village' projects — including vegetables, hybrid rice, livestock, and fishery initiatives — will help demonstrate China’s achievements in poverty alleviation and rural development to Nepali farmers. The projects are expected to serve as a model for Nepal’s agricultural modernization while supporting the development of sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural systems driven by local communities," said Ms Zou Zhiqiang, CFRD Country Director.
The "Vibrant Village Initiative" continues to expand its footprint in Nepal with similar flagship programs, including hybrid rice demonstrations in Chitwan and greenhouse vegetable systems in Lalitpur. Demonstrating a holistic approach to community development, the CFRD also distributed extracurricular sports equipment to 10 local government schools during the event, which concluded with interactive field exchanges between farmers and agricultural experts.
