The heat wave affecting the western Terai region is expected to stick around today. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned that some areas in the Terai, particularly in the Far West and Lumbini regions, could experience continued high temperatures.

Bibhuti Pokharel, the department's spokesperson, urged residents in the Terai regions of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces to be especially cautious due to the extreme heat, which could pose risks to public health. The weather forecast indicates that Dhangadhi could see temperatures soar between 38 to 40 degrees Celsius, while Nepalgunj might reach a sweltering 39 to 41 degrees Celsius.

In Bhairawa, Birgunj, Ghorahi, and Simara, temperatures are expected to hover around 35 to 38 degrees Celsius. The department also mentioned the possibility of light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, in the hilly and Himalayan areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

Rain may also occur in the Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, and Taplejung. Today, the forecast indicates that the maximum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley will range from 28 to 30 degrees Celsius. The department has advised residents to avoid unnecessary outings during the afternoon, stay hydrated, wear light cotton clothing, and pay special attention to children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.
