With the brilliant performance of young players Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj, India won a thrilling 12-run victory in the first match of the ODI series against the New Zealand.
Chasing a target of 350 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, New Zealand were bowled out for 337 runs in 49.2 overs.
Before that, India batted after winning the toss with Shubman Gill scoring a double century and scored 349 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Shubman added 208 runs off 149 balls for India.
He hit 19 fours and 1 six before being dismissed in the last over.
23-year-old Gill has also become the youngest cricketer to score a double century in ODI cricket.
Only 8 people have scored double centuries in international cricket.
Captain Rahit Sharma scored 34, Suryakumar Yadav scored 31 and Hardik Pandya scored 28 for India.
In bowling, New Zealand's Henry Shipley and Darrell Mitchell took 2 wickets each.
Chasing a big target, New Zealand did not start well.
However, Mitchell Bracewell and Mitchell Santner shared a record 162 runs for seven wickets and brought the team closer to victory. Bracewell scored 140 and Santner scored 57 runs.
In the last over, New Zealand needed 20 more runs to win.
Bracewell raised hopes by hitting a six on the first ball of Sardul Thakur.
After the next ball went wide, New Zealand needed 13 runs in 5 balls to win. However, he was dismissed LBW to Dharan by Shardul's Yarkar ball.
Muhammad Siraj of India took 4 wickets in bowling. Bowling 10 overs, he kept 2 maidens and spent 46 runs. Shardul and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets each.
India has taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. The second match of the series will be held on Saturday.
