Nepal Electricity Authority has achieved significant success in controlling electricity leakage.
In the first five months of the current fiscal year, the Authority has reduced the electricity leakage towards distribution to 7.49 percent.
Last year, electricity leakage towards distribution till December was 9.23 percent.
By November, 4 billion 147 million units of electricity have been received in the distribution system, of which 3 billion 836 million 700 thousand units of electricity have been sold.
310 million 779 thousand units of electricity have been leaked. Until November, the leakage towards the transmission line is 4.56 percent.
In terms of transmission and distribution, the electricity leakage of the entire system is 12.005 percent until December.
Kulman Ghising, executive director of the Authority, informed that it is a great achievement to have succeeded in reducing the distribution leakage to 7.49 percent, which was about 22 percent about seven years ago.
Out of the distribution centers under the Authority's seven regional offices and two provincial division offices, Madhes province regional office Janakpur has the most electricity leakage.
The overall electricity leakage of 23 distribution centers under Janakpur Regional Office is 12.80 percent till December.
