Health and Population Minister Padam Giri has conducted an on-site monitoring to get first-hand information about the situation of measles epidemic in Banke.
After reaching the basic health center located in Nepalgunj sub-metropolitan city-5, understanding the actual situation of measles patients, he said that he will leave no stone unturned in the government's work for control.
He advised the locals to be serious about vaccination and mentioned that the government has intensified the vaccination campaign to control measles.
Minister Giri urged the local representatives to focus and be active in measles control now, as the role of local people's representatives is important to make vaccination effective.
Along with the Minister, MPs Surya Dhakal, Dhaval Shamsher Rana and Deepa Sharma, Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Roshan Pokhrel, Director General Dr. Dipendraraman Singh, Policy Planning Division Chief Dr. Krishna Poudel, Provincial Health Director Dr. Vinod Giri, Deputy Director Dr. Roshanlal Chaudhary, Health Office Banke Chief Sunita Paudel and others participated in the inspection.
Two hundred and sixty people have been affected by measles in five local levels of Banke. Among them, Nepalgunj has the highest number of two hundred and three people.
Among those affected, 196 have recovered, 63 are undergoing treatment and one has died, according to the District Health Office.
So far, 68,221 people have been vaccinated in the district. It is said that 48,822 people are still to be vaccinated.
Minister Giri has also inspected Bheri Hospital in Nepalganj. Besides talking to the patients in the hospital, he also monitored the various wards.
He has also taken information about the waste management of the hospital. Medical Superintendent Dr. Badri Chapagain informed about the hospital.
