Officials have said that with the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide employment to Nepali health workers in the UK, the process of making a protocol for its implementation has reached its final stage.
In the draft of the protocol, it is said that the provisions regarding the selection of health workers, their placement, the services they will receive and the rights are mentioned.
According to Thaneshwar Bhusal, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, an agreement has been reached so that health workers sent from Nepal will get the same facilities and rights as British health workers.
The protocol that is being prepared to implement it will be passed by the Council of Ministers in line with the agreement reached with the UK.
"On the basis of the MoU, standards are being developed. In other countries, there are complaints of discrimination between domestic and foreign workers. But here, it is said that equal services and rights will be provided," Bhusal said.
He said that the 'Implementation of Protocol' will be prepared after the necessary discussions with the concerned bodies including the Passport Department and Nursing Council.
How many nurses can go?
The Ministry is taking the initiative to send 10,000 nurses from Nepal to the UK. Anyone, not just women, can apply under this process if the criteria are met.
"Under this program, they will be sent for five years. They will be given a two-year work permit. After the expiry of that period, they will have to get approval again," added Bhusal.
There is a provision that the health workers who are applying for the jobs should be under 45 years of age.
English language test required
Health workers who wish to apply must score certain marks in English. They are required to score at least 7 overall in IELTS.
"You can't take the Nursing Council exam in the UK without getting the required marks in the language test. That's why it has been made necessary to get the prescribed marks from here," said Bhusal.
