England defeated Afghanistan by five wickets in the second match of the Super 12 under the ICC Men's T20 World Cup held at Perth Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Chasing the 113-run target set by Afghanistan, England reached it in 18.1 overs losing five wickets.
Liam Livingstone topped the score with 29 runs off 21 balls and remained not-out. Similarly, Alex Hales notched up 19 runs while Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan secured equal 18 runs.
In reply, Mohammad Nabi, Fareed Ahmad, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Rahman and Fazalhaq Farooqi grabbed one wicket each of England.
Earlier, electing to field first after winning the toss, England bowled out Afghanistan for 112 runs. To restrict the opponent to paltry 112 runs, Sam Curran took the highest five wickets conceding only 10 runs. Similarly, Mark Wood and Ben Stokes took equal two wickets of Afghanistan.
Despite pressure exerted by England, Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran, Usman Ghani, Najibullah Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz made 32, 30, 13 and 10 runs, respectively. The batsmen could not reach double-digit runs.
Sam Curran was declared the Player of the Match.
Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, South Africa, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, England, Australia, Afghanistan, New Zealand and the Netherlands are in the Super 12.
