ICC T20 World Cup: Sri Lanka registers 9-wicket win against Ireland

Sri Lanka defeated Ireland by nine wickets in a cricket match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup underway in Australia on Sunday.

Chasing a 129-run target set by Ireland, Sri Lanka achieved it in 15 overs at the cost of one wicket.

 For Sri Lanka’s win, Kusal Mendis topped the score with 68 runs studded with five fours and three sixes off 43 balls. Similarly, Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka made 31 runs each.

Earlier, elected to bat first after winning the toss, Ireland had notched up 128 runs in the allotted 20 overs losing eight wickets.

Ireland’s Harry Tector made the highest 45 runs followed by Paul Stirling with 34 runs while the other batsmen could not perform so significantly.

Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva and Maheesh Theekshana grabbed two wickes each for Sri Lanka.

Kushal Mendis was declared the Player of the Match. 

Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, South Africa, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, England, Australia, Afghanistan, New Zealand and the Netherlands are in the Super 12.
