The dog is worshiped on the second day of Tihar (Yamapanchak), the second biggest festival of Nepali people.

According to Hindu tradition, a dog is worshiped as the vehicle of Bhairava on the day of Kattik Krishna Chaturdashi.

The dog, the faithful companion of human-beings, is worshiped because it is obedient and protective.

On the occasion of Kukur Tihar, Nepal Police has worshiped dogs of canine branch. The trained dogs used by the Nepal Police for crime control and investigation were worshiped.

Dogs that help in crime investigation are adopted by the army and police by treating them as employees.
