Top leaders have joined an election campaign in favor of Nepali Congress candidate Govinda Bhattarai from the ruling alliance in Tanahun Constituency 1.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba reached Tanahun on Tuesday to create an electoral atmosphere in favor of Bhattarai.

Prachanda, who reached Tsum Valley of Gorkha on Wednesday morning to address a program at a monastery, left for Tanahun by helicopter.

Congress president Deuba has reached Tanahun directly from Kathmandu.

Dr Swarnim Wagle who quit NC to join Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is contesting the by-elections from Tanahun 1.

The top leaders have reached there to ask votes for Bhattarai, challenging Wagle.

Chairman of Unified Socialist Party Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Nepal Samajbadi Party Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai have also reached the constituency.

It is estimated that there will be a tripartite clash between Bhattarai from Congress, Wagle from RSP and Sarbendra Khanal from CPN (UML) in Tanahun 1.

Tahanun-1 lay vacant after NC senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel was appointed the president of Nepal on March 9.

The by-election is being held on April 23.
