MPs suggest for clearly setting priority sectors in next budget

The House of Representatives members have demanded that the topics of the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill should be clearly stated.

Taking part in the deliberations on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill (except tax proposal) for the Fiscal Year 2023/24 in a HoR session today, they said the topics which have been given more priority should be clarified.

Gokarna Bista said a family should be provided with health insurance coverage of at least Rs 300,000 given the expensive basic health services in the country. He said although the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill tried to include everything under the sun, nothing is prioritized in it.

Mahendra Bahadur Shahi called on the government to cut back on unnecessary expenditures and keep the backward regions in development priority for having a balanced development.

Biraj Bhakta Shrestha stressed on determining the topics of the Bill so as to spur sustainable economic growth to achieve prosperity.

Rajendra Prasad Lingden called for setting the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill in a way that activates the economy which is almost into crisis. Calling attention of the parliament and the government over the delay in the construction of several national pride projects, he said giving priority in the budget that corruption will not be tolerated at all.

Upendra Yadav suggested utilizing the principlesa and priorities of the Appropriation Bill as an opportunity to implement the fiscal federalism. He stressed on development of a socialism-oriented economy, adopting fiscal federalism in its letter and spirit for achieving economic development, reinstating the closed industries for increasing production and prioritizing tourism promotion.

Amar Bahadur Thapa opined that contributions could be made towards resolving economic crisis through the development and sustainable utilization of agriculture, energy, water, land and forest resources.
