The Dasharath Stadium remained tense on Wednesday when defending champions Machhindra Football Club were reduced to runners-up in the Martyr’s Memorial A Division League.

Machindra defeated the Himalayan Sherpa Club by 3-1 and became the runners-up with one game to spare.

No sooner the referee awarded a red card to goalkeeper of Machhindra Club Bishal Shrestha in the 83rd minute than the players went on the rampage, breaking the game discipline, creating a hullabaloo.

The referee first showed a yellow card and then a red card after goalkeeper Bishal fouled Fakunle.

Machhindra scored 42 points in 25 matches with 11 wins, 9 draws and 5 losses. Earlier on Tuesday, newcomers Church Boys won the league title, becoming the A Division League champions.

Nepal Police Club notched up 38 points from the equal number of matches.
