England defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in a cricket match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup played at Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday.
Chasing the 142-run target set by Sri Lanka, England reached it in 19.4 overs losing six wickets.
For the victory of England, Alex Hales topped the score with 47 runs including seven fours and one six off 30 balls. Ben Stokes hit 42 runs including two fours off 36 runs while Jos Buttler made 28 runs off 23 balls.
In reply, Dhananjaya de Silva, Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva and Lahiru Kumara grabbed two wickets each for Sri Lanka.
Earlier election to bat first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka notched up 141 runs in the allotted 20 overs losing eight wickets.
Pathum Nissanka made the highest 67 runs including two fours and five sixes. Similarly, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Kusal Mendis contributed 22 and 18 runs respectively. The other batsmen could not reach double-digit runs.
In reply, Mark Wood took the highest three wickets for England.
