More than 80 kg of gold has been recovered from Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday evening.
The Revenue Investigation Department tonight recovered the gold from the airport after import customs clearance.
Nawa Raj Dhungana, Director General of the Revenue Investigation Department informed that a team of officials recovered the gold from the passengers who came to Nepal on a flight of Cathay Pacific Airways from Hong Kong.
The seized gold is estimated to be around 80 to 100 kg, according to the Department.
"We have recovered it from outside the customs gate. The gold was found concealed in the brake shoe of motorcycles and scooters, Director General Dhungana told Nepalkhabar, "It is estimated to be around 80 to 100 kg."
An official of the Revenue Investigation Department said the operation was conducted after being tipped off that 100 kg of gold was passing through the airport every day for a few days.
As the operation is ongoing, the exact amount of gold recovered cannot be determined, the Department said.
