The actual weight of the smuggled gold after melting has been put at 60 kilograms and 716 grams.
Thaneshwar Acharya, the chief of the Mint Division of Nepal Rastra Bank said, “The actual weight of the gold is put at 60 kilos and 716 grams after melting.”
The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) had taken the weight after melting the gold in the presence of officials of the DRI, Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and Nepal Rastra Bank at Babarmahal.
A team from the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) had confiscated a huge quantity of gold hidden inside brake shoes of scooters during a cargo inspection on July 19 after it had passed undetected through the airport customs.
The seized gold weighed 155 kg including the brake shoes. After taking the weight, the gold was kept sealed at the Mint Division of Nepal Rastra Bank.
The weight of the gold after separating it from the brake shoes was 60 kilos and 789 grams on Monday.
The gold was melted and weighed today.
