Seventy-eight health workers including doctors working at Hetauda Hospital have resigned en masse.

Doctor Hari Khadka, a pediatric specialist at Hetauda Hospital, informed that Dr. Bikas Thapa and Prashant Bidari, working at Sancho Hospital in Makwanpur's Hetauda sub-metropolis-1, have resigned collectively on Wednesday, demanding action against those who beat them.

"We waited for 48 hours after the incident. But as the victim is not ready to get justice, we have decided to resign", Dr. Hari Khadka said, "Our profession is not safe. The state should think to end the situation of being beaten while on duty. But the state was oblivious to this matter."

According to him, since the assailants have not been brought to justice, all the services of Hetauda Hospital have been stopped, except for emergencies, and the doctors/health workers have started a protest.

Earlier, doctors and health workers submitted their resignations en-masse to the Medical Superintendent of Hetauda Hospital, Dr. Ramchandra Sapkota.

They complained that no action was taken against those who attacked the doctors, the government did not take any responsibility for the treatment of the injured doctors and the administration remained silent against the incident.

Kin of 41-year-old Rajesh Pradhan of Hetauda-12, who died a month ago due to dengue infection, beat two doctors inside the hospital on Wednesday, saying that they were negligent in their treatment.

Utsav Chaulagain, a health worker at Hetauda Hospital, said that the police remained a mute spectator even when the attackers threatened to kill the victim doctors in front of the police.

After increasing pressure from all sides, the police have arrested the deceased's wife Rama, son Rohit, daughter Ramita, and nephew Anup Pradhan on the charge of beating the doctor based on the CCTV footage.
