It has been revealed that the murder of four members of the same family at Mundu village in Chhyanath Rara Municipality-6, Mugu, had been committed by their own relatives.

A team of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested two individuals for their alleged involvement in the murder, 12 days after the incident.

Gorkharaj Shahi Thakuri, 31, a resident of Pina Rural Municipality-7, currently staying at Chisapani, Banke Kohalpur, and Gopal Bohara of Chhyanath Rara Municipality-6, Mugu, have been arrested on the charge of murder.

Gorkharaj, who was on the run after committing the crime, was arrested by the CIB team on November 6 from Birendranagar Municipality-5 Panchakoshitol in Surkhet.

Gorkharaj’s arrest led to the arrest of Gopal's involvement in the murder. Gopal was arrested by the police from Gamgadhi-2 in Mugu on November 7, the day after Gorkharaj landed in the police net.

The police are making preparations to make them public in the afternoon today.

Sridevi Bohara, her 11-year-old son Manoj Bohara, 7-year-old daughter Apsara Bohara and 8-month-old son Rahar Bohara were killed inside their house on the night of October 25.

Murder accused Gorkharaj is Sridevi's uncle and Gopal is the brother-in-law by relation. Sridevi is the daughter of Gorkharaj's sister-in-law.

They were killed with sharp weapons on the night of October 25, the same day that Sridevi returned home after celebrating Dashain in her father’s house. As per the pre-mediated plan for robbery, Gorkharaj had reached Gopal's house a few days ago.

An official of the Karnali Province Police Office said that they had initially planned a robbery and later killed the family members. In June 2023, Garkharaj Shahi Thakuri reached Mandu from Kohalpur in Banke and met Gopal Bohara. The police involved in the investigation said that they, earlier, planned to rob Sridevi’s house as she had 7 to 8 tolas of gold and some cash.

According to the plan, on October 22, Gorkharaj went to Pina, Mugu from Surkhet and stayed at Gopal Bahadur's house. On October 23, he was secretly living in the same village.

On October 25, Sridevi Bohara returned from father’s house with two sons and one daughter. The police claim that that Gorkharaj and Gopal killed them together on the evening they returned home.

After the murder, they stole two and a half tolas of gold ring worn by the deceased, 25 grams of Tilahari (traditional jewelry item), two checkbooks of NIC Asia Bank in the name of the deceased's husband Deepak and Sridevi, a land certificate in the name of Sridevi, Sridevi's mobile phone and 5 to 6 thousand rupees in cash.

According to the police, after the incident, they left the body inside the house and closed the door from outside. Gopal Bohara remained in the village while Gorkharaj fled towards Surkhet.

It is revealed that Gorkharaj sold the looted gold in Nepalgunj. The CIB team recovered Rs 179,000 in cash in possession of Gorkharaj. The CIB team has handed them over to District Police Office, Mugu for further investigation.

Initially, a joint team from District Police Office, Mugu and Karnali Province Police Office was deployed to investigate the incident.

But as the investigation could not reach a conclusion, a team from the CIB under the command of DSP Dharma Bhandari had been deployed.
