With Captain Dev Khanal’s half century, Nepal has reached the Super Six by defeating Afghanistan by one wicket in the cricket match of the ICC U-19 World Cup on Friday.
Chasing the target of 146 runs set by Afghanistan, Nepal reached it in 44.4 overs losing nine wickets.
Captain Dev Khanal topped the score with 58 runs studded with seven fours off 89 deliveries. Similarly, Dipak Bohara hit 27 runs, Aakash Tripathi made 16 runs while Arjun Kumal contributed 10 runs.
Faridoon Dawoodzai took the highest three wickets giving away 21 runs. Khalil Ahmed and Naseer Khan Maroofkhil took two wickets each while AM Ghazanfar and Arab Gul grabbed one wicket each for Afghanistan.
Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss at the Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium in East London, South Africa, Afghanistan notched up 145 runs losing all wickets in 40.1 overs.
AM Ghazanfar made the highest score with 37 runs including four fours and three sixes followed by captain Naseer Khan Maroofkhil with 31 runs while Faridoon Dawoodzai contributed 20 runs for Afghanistan.
To restrict the opponent to a low score, Aakash Chand grabbed the highest five wickets followed by Dipesh Kandel with two wickets while Tilak Bhandari, Subash Bhandari and Gulsan Jha claimed one wicket each for Nepal.
Nepali player Aakash Chand is declared the Player of the Match.
