Nepal has climbed atop the list of countries contributing the largest number of peacekeeping troops to the United Nations.
According to the website of the United Nations Peacekeeping, Nepal is atop the tally with 6,247 peacekeepers followed by Bangladesh with 6, 197 while India ranks the third with 6,073 peacekeepers as of November 30, 2023.
Similarly, Rwanda stands in the fourth position with 5,919 followed by Pakistan with 4,164 while Indonesia is in the sixth position with 2,717 peacekeepers.
Likewise, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Qatar, Sao Tome and Principe, Tajikistan were found to have seconded one peacekeeper each while Haiti, Iran and Ukraine did not any peacekeeper.
In terms of missions and personnel types, MINUSCA climbs atop in the list of missions with the highest number of 13,363 troops, 2,411 Formed Police Units, 423 staffers, 583 police officials and 150 mission experts.
UNMISS ranks the second with 13,241 troops, 850 Formed Police Units, 425 staffers, 701 police officials and 232 mission experts.
Likewise, MONUSCO has 12,562 troops, 1,223 Formed Police Units, 345 staffers, 156 mission experts and 405 police officials.
There were over 85,000 individuals deployed across the 12 UN peacekeeping missions that were active at the time as of May 2023.
Of them, 62,000 were military personnel from various countries contributing to the missions, 16,000 police personnel and 7,000 civilians supporting the missions in various capacities, according to the website of the UN Peacekeeping.
