T20 Series: Netherlands inflicts 59-run defeat on Namibia

Netherlands has defeated Namibia by 59 runs in the tri-nation T20 series held in Kirtipur on Thursday.

Netherlands restricted Namibia to 188 runs while the latter was chasing the 248-run target.

Timm van der Gugten grabbed two wickets each while Vivian Kingma, Fred Klaassen, Aryan Dutt, Sybrand Engelbrecht and Roelof van der Merwe claimed one wicket each for Netherlands.

Namibia’s Jan Frylinck and Zane Green made 42 runs each followed by JP Kotze with 26 runs. Similarly, JJ Smit and Ruben Trumpelmann contributed 19 runs each while the other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Thursday, Netherlands notched up 247 runs losing five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Michael Levitt topped the score with 135 runs including 11 fours and 10 sixes off 62 balls while Sybrand Engelbrecht and Teja Nidamanuru contributed 75 and 18 balls, respectively. The other batsmen could not reach double-digit runs.

With the second consecutive win, Netherlands is top the points table with four points followed by Namibia with two points. Nepal is trailing without points after it lost two matches.

Nepal will take on Namibia in the tri-nation T20 Series on Friday.
