CPN (Maoist Center)’s lawmaker Narayan Dahal has registered his candidature for the post of chairman of National Assembly, representing the new ruling alliance.
Maoist Center’s Gopi Bahadur Sarki Achhami proposed Dahal as the candidate for the post of chairman while his proposal was seconded by CPN (UML)’s Debendra Dahal, CPN (Unified Socialist)’s Beduram Bhusal and Janata Samajbadi Party’s Mohammad Khalid.
Similarly, lawmaker Yubaraj Sharma of main opposition Nepali Congress has filed his candidacy for the post of chairman of National Assembly.
NC’s Ananda Prasad Dhungana proposed Sharma as the candidate for the post and his proposal was seconded by NC leader Kiran Babu Shrestha and Shekhar Kumar Singh of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party.
The Federal Parliament Secretariat has set the time for filing nominations from 11 am to 1 pm. The list of candidates will be published today once the registration process is over.
The election of the National Assembly chairman is scheduled for tomorrow (March 12).
Dahal is poised to take the helm of the National Assembly given the strength of the newly formed coalition.
The Maoist Center, UML, CPN (Unified Socialist), and Janata Samajbadi Party have 39 lawmakers. Similarly, the NC has 16 lawmakers.
