PNG beats Nepal by 86 runs to win T20 Series title

Papua New Guinea (PNG) has clinched the title of the T20 tri-series held at the Mong Kok Cricket Ground in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Nepal was bowled out for 85 runs in 16.3 overs while the latter was chasing the 172-run target.

Kabua Morea, Semo Kamea, Chad Soper and Sese Bau took two wickets each while Alei Nao grabbed one wicket for PNG to restrict Nepal to low 85 runs.

Nepal’s Sundeep Jora made 17 runs followed by Aarif Sheikh with 15 runs while Captain Rohit Paudel hit 12 runs.

Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, PNG notched up 171 runs losing eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Tony Ura topped the score with 61 runs including five fours and four sixes off deliveries. Similarly, Alei Nao contributed 30 not out runs including one four and three sixes, Hila Vare made 18 runs including two fours off 21 balls while Hiri Hiri and Kiplin Doriga hit 15 and 14 runs, respectively.

The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.

On the bowling side, Aakash Chand and Kushal Bhurtel claimed two wickets each while Karan KC and Gulsan Jha grabbed one wicket each for Nepal.

Both teams participated in the tri-series as part of preparations for the upcoming T20I World Cup.

Nepal is in Group 'D' and PNG is in Group 'C' in the T20 World Cup to be held in America and West Indies starting June 1.
