Holi, the festival of colors, is being celebrated in the hilly and mountainous regions of Nepal today, with fanfare.

The festival, which is also known as Fagu Purnima, as it falls on Falgun Shukla Purnima, is celebrated by exchanging greetings, and best wishes among friends, colleagues, neighbors and relatives, and smearing colors on each other.

It is celebrated with gaiety and is considered as the victory of truth over falsehood and good over evil, which will inspire human life to be colorful and joyful.

In a press note, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said the multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-cultural, and multi-religious characteristics in Nepali society have not only established our national pride but also developed a national culture that respects and assimilates each other's identity, self-respect, and culture.

The government has given a holiday on the occasion of the Holi festival today. Similarly, the Holi will be celebrated in the Terai region tomorrow (Monday).

Meanwhile, the District Police Range, Kathmandu, has deputed 3,000 security personnel to prevent any untoward incidents during the festival and to make it safe and disciplined.

Spokesperson of the District Police Range Kathmandu, Superintendent of Police Navaraj Adhikari warned that action would be taken against those involved in unlawful activities, driving vehicles under the influence of drugs and alcohol, making noise consuming alcohol and causing trouble to people during the Holi festival.

"We have urged one and all to celebrate the Holi festival in a civilized and grand manner. Stern action will be taken against those involved in unlawful activities," he shared.

Altogether 2,500 security personnel in uniform and 500 in plain clothes have been mobilized to maintain law and order during the Holi festival this year.

Similarly, security personnel have warned that those involved in activities like smearing colors and throwing water-filled balloons would also be brought under the ambit of legal action.
