Two flights - one of Buddha Air and the other of Yeti Airlines –were diverted to Kathmandu after they could not land at the Pokhara International Airport on Sunday morning.
A flight of Buddha Air ATR-72 bound for Pokhara from Tribhuvan International Airport was diverted to Kathmandu after it could not land in Pokhara.
Similarly, another flight of Yeti Airlines also could not land in Pokhara and, hence, was diverted to Kathmandu this morning.
“The flights of Buddha Air and Yeti Airlines bound for Pokhara were diverted to Kathmandu after they could not land due to growing activities of birds and insects at the Pokhara International Airport,” said Dipendra Adhikari, the information officer of Buddha Air.
Acting chief of Pokhara International Airport, Josoda Subdi, said two flights arriving from Kathmandu were diverted to Tribhuvan International Airport after they could not land in Pokhara.
“No flights have landed at the Pokhara International Airport due to the growing activities of birds and insects on the runway since 8 am today,” said Subedi.
According to Subedi, there has been an increase in red colored insects/termites on the runway of the airport. She said that a swarm of insects has appeared due to the rain continuing since Friday.
The airport officials are now driving away birds and spraying insecticide to eliminate insects and termites, she said.
