Sixteen-year-old Pashupati Mahara of Dogadakedar Rural Municipality-2, Baitadi was found dead last Sunday morning. She was found hanging from a tree a few meters below Khalipatal Community Forest near her house.
Pashupati used to live at home with her mother and younger brother. Her father was in India for an employment. He has returned home following the tragic death of his daughter.
The Mahara family is devastated by the tragic death of their daughter Pashupati. Pashupati was studying in grade 11 at Rauleshwar Secondary School in Kafalkot.
She was in a 'love relationship' with a young man named Prakash Balayar. Pashupati's family had no idea about this. They even exchanged Facebook passwords with each other.
The victim and suspect reportedly engaged in frequent conversations on Facebook Messenger. The victim's family alleges that during these conversations, Balayar pressured Pashupati to undress during a video call. Such videos and photos have been recovered.
Those secret videos and photos of Pashupati were leaked to Facebook Messenger groups. Family sources said the fear of societal disgrace may have forced Pashupati to commit suicide after such videos were leaked online.
She was innocent. The parents were in the dark about her 'love affairs'. "Following the incident we came to know that Balayar used to call her at night," said the family source, "on Saturday around 6 pm, he leaked her naked videos online. She, then, apparently committed suicide at night for the fear of societal disgrace," her family members said.
A notebook found in Pashupati's room contains 'Prakash Balayar and his password'. Similarly, Pashupati left a two-page long message before taking her own life. The message found in the victim's room contained apologies to her family and friends, including a specific request to her mother to look after her father's health and to support her younger brother's dream of becoming a singer.
The victim's family has submitted all the details to the police, including the secret "screen shots of the video" leaked on social media, demanding stern action against the culprit.
The victim's family is making preparations to file an abetment of suicide case against the young man.
Pashupati's mobile phone was found in her pocket. Police Inspector Khem Bikram KC of District Police Office Baitadi said that the mobile phone was sent to the Forensic Lab in Kathmandu for examination.
"We have sent the mobile to the forensic lab for examination. We are investigating the case from various angles, including technical aspects," said Police Inspector KC.
