Yamlal Kandel, the parliamentary party leader of CPN (UML) in the Karnali Province, is poised to become the Chief Minister of Karnali Province.

Outgoing Chief Minister Raj Kumar Sharma resigned from his post today paving the way for Kandel to become the next chief minister of the province.

Even though Kandel tried to become the chief minister following a power-sharing deal reached between UML and the Maoist Center on December 25, 2022, he could not make it.

Kandel had won the provincial elections held in 2017 and 2022.

Following a power-sharing agreement reached among the four parties of the new ruling coalition last Monday, the posts of chief ministers of Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali went into the fold of the UML.

UML cadres have gathered outside the building of the Provincial Assembly building in Surkhet after Kandel is set to become the Chief Minister.

Despite a majority of the Maoist Center in the province, party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ directed Rajkumar to resign from the post to implement the power-sharing deal reached among the four coalition partners.
