A meeting of the Koshi Province Assembly held on Friday endorsed a resolution motion with an intent to remove Chief Minister Kedar Karki in the next one month.
CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) withdrew their support to the Karki-led government and submitted a resolution motion urging Karki to step down.
Koshi Province Assembly Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista presented the resolution motion at the province assembly seeking consideration in line with the Rule 70 (1) (C) of the Province Assembly Regulations, 2074 BS (first amendment).
The resolution motion submitted in the meeting of the Province Assembly which was endorsed by a majority of lawmakers, rejecting the Chief Minister Karki’s request to withdraw the motion.
In the 93-member strong Koshi Province Assembly, 52 lawmakers are from UML and Maoist Center. They submitted a resolution motion after the majority of lawmakers urged Karki to open up avenues for solution or take the vote of confidence in 30 days in compliance with the Constitution.
However, Karki did not budge from his stance, instead, he put forth a proposal to form an all-party government under his leadership.
“I became the chief minister to prevent the province from sliding into the mid-term elections,” said Chief Minister Karki, “The letter pad of my party was not sought at that time. I won’t resign from my post. Instead, let’s form an all-party government to prevent the province from sliding into political quagmire.”
With the endorsement of the resolution, Chief Minister Karki now has to take a vote of confidence in the next one month.
