Karnali Chief Minister Kandel secures vote of confidence

Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Yamlal Kandel, has taken the vote of confidence.

Chief Minister secured 23 votes including 13 from CPN (Maoist Center), nine from CPN (UML) and one from CPN (Unified Socialist), a UML leader said.

Twenty-three votes were cast in favor of him, 12 votes were cast against the motion while four lawmakers remained neutral. Kandel took the vote of confidence 16 days after he was appointed as the Chief Minister of Karnali Province on April 9.

In the 40-member Karnali Province Assembly, there are 13 lawmakers from Maoist Center, 10 from UML, one from Unified Socialist, main opposition Nepali Congress has 14 members, Rastriya Prajantra Party one and one independent lawmaker.

Votes of 21 lawmakers were required to secure the vote of confidence.
