The District Court, Rautahat has sentenced four defendants including former Minister and the leader of Nepali Congress, Mohammad Aftab Alam, to life in prison.
Hearing the case on Thursday, a single bench of Judge Matrika Acharya found Alam guilty in the murder case, and handed him down the life-sentence for the crime. The murder case had been registered on Novemeber 4, 2019.
According to DSP Anjila Giri of District Police Office, Rautahat, his brother Mohammad Mahtab Alam has also been sentenced to life in prison in the same case. Similarly, Sheikh Saroj alias Sheikh Saraj and Badri Sahani are the other accused facing the music.
On April 9, 2008, during the Constituent Assembly, a bomb had exploded in the house of Mohammad Aftab Alam, who was also the candidate of the Nepali Congress, in Rajpur Farhadwa-4, Rautahat.
Alam had called people from India to improvise explosive devices in order to win the elections by unleashing terror.
Trilok Pratap Singh alias Pintu and Oshi Akhtar Miya had sustained injuries in the explosion.
Alam allegedly killed by immolating them in a brick chimney for the fear that his secret plan to capture booths by detonating bombs would be disclosed.
