Fifty-seven percent of votes have been cast in the House of Representative elections held in Ilam 2 on Saturday.
Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav informed Nepalkhabar that 69,287 voters cast their votes in the elections by 5 pm. The voting began at 7 am.
With the voting is over, preparations are being made to take the ballot boxes to the district headquarters.
The voter turnout had been put at 57.44 percent in the House of Representative elections held on November 20, 2022.
The Office of the Election Officer has said 59.79 percent of votes were cast by 5 pm.
Out of 115,889 voters, over 69,287 turned up at the centers to cast their votes in the by-elections in Ilam 2, according to Election Officer Keshav Prasad Ghimire.
Even though nine candidates are contesting the election of the member of the House of Representatives in the Ilam 2, the major competition is likely between UML's Suhang Nembang, NC's Dambar Khadka, RSP's Milan Limbu and independent candidate Dakendra Singh Thegim (pro-identity group).
All eyes are on the by-elections in Ilam 2 as the issue of identity is getting more complicated in Koshi Province.
Nineteen candidates including 12 from political parties and seven independents are contesting the elections.
There are 115,889 voters in the Ilam-2. The voting was held in 149 polling centers, and 79 polling stations.
