A complaint has been lodged against Honorary Consul of Nepal in Poland, Bodh Raj Subedi, accusing him of trafficking in people.
The complaint filed at the International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives seeks an immediate suspension of Subedi and urges the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to investigate the case.
“A person involved in human-trafficking should not hold the post of an honorary consul representing Nepal,” reads the petition which was filed on May 5, “It will undermine, pride, integrity and dignity of the country.”
An action has also been sought against then Nepali Ambassador to Germany who recommended Subedi for the honorary consul.
On October 17, 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a petition calling for action against Subedi. In response, the Foreign Minister, Foreign Secretary, and relevant officials have been summoned to a committee meeting.
The petition alleges that Subedi, while president of the NRNA Poland chapter in 2009, illegally took eight Nepali citizens to Poland under the pretext of participating in a New Year's program.
Subedi, however, in a press note has admitted to have taken only two persons to Poland.
A letter sent by Subedi on December 11, 2008 to the Nepali Embassy in Germany requesting visas for Ramesh Kumar Malla of Kathmandu and Tika Pun of Myagdi had become public.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers led by then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on July 25, 2022 had appointed Subedi as the Honorary Consul of Nepal in Warsaw.
