Koshi Province Chief Parshuram Khapung has called on the political parties to stake a claim for the formation of a new government in line with Article 168 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Issuing a press note on Wednesday, the Office of the Province Chief said a provincial lawmaker who can secure the vote of confidence can stake a claim for the post of Chief Minister by May 10 Friday 5 pm.
On October 14, 2023, lawmaker of Nepali Congress Kedar Karki became the Chief Minister with the support of CPN (UML). Karki also manged to receive the vote of confidence from CPN (Maoist Center), eventually.
On April 8, 52 lawmakers withdrew their support to Chief Minister Karki following the formation of the new ruling alliance including UML in the center on March 4.
A meeting of the province assembly on April 22 passed a resolution motion by a majority of lawmakers to end the existing stalemate in the province. After Chief Minister Karki did not register any proposal for taking the vote of confidence, Province Chief Khapung called for the formation of a new government.
Earlier, leaders of UML and Maoist Center had urged the Province Chief to take steps toward forming the new government.
Khapung called for the formation a new government in accordance with Article 168 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal following the consultation with Attorney General Dr Dinmani Pokharel.
