ICC World Cup: Nepal suffers 6-wicket defeat against Netherlands

Nepal suffered a 6-wicket defeat at the hands of Netherlands in its first match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup held at Dallas, USA on Tuesday.

Chasing the target of 107 runs set by Nepal, Netherlands reached it in 18.4 overs losing four wickets.

Max O'Dowd topped the score with 54 not-out runs including four fours and one six off 48 balls followed by Vikramjit Singh with 22 runs including four fours off 28 deliveries. Similarly, Sybrand Engelbrecht contributed 14 runs while captain Scott Edwards hit five runs.

In reply, Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh Airee and Abinash Bohara took one wicket each for Nepal. 

Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, Nepal notched up 106 runs losing all wickets in 19. 2 overs.

Captain Rohit Paudel made the highest 35 runs including five fours off 37 deliveries followed by Karan KC with 17 runs including two sixes and Gulsan Jha with 14 runs. Anil Sah hit 11 runs while the other batsmen could not achieve double-digit runs.

On the bowling side, Tim Pringle, Logan van Beek took three wickets each while Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede grabbed two wickets each for Netherlands.

Nepal will take on Sri Lanka on June 11. After having played two matches in Dallas, Nepal will fly to West Indies to play the other two matches.

According to the ICC schedule, Nepal will take on South Africa at St Vincent Cricket Stadium on June 14 and Bangladesh on June 16.

Nepal is in group ‘D’ alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Netherlands. Nepali is participating in the World Cup match after a hiatus of 10 years.
